Hi there. I'm Yvonne, and I'm a wife, Mom of 2 and business chick. Welcome!Last time, I was using Ibuprofen to control her fever, and she was having nosebleeds. The doctor said "oh...she's probebly picking alot!!" Which didn't sound right to me, but whatever. Finally it dawned on me that ibuprofen, like aspirin, is a blood thinner...and perhaps IT was causeing the nosebleeds! (A sensitivity to asprin perhaps?)
So this time, we stayed away from motrin, or anything like it. But I couldn't seem to get any Tylenol in her either...just the thought of medicine made her throw up. There was alot of vomiting, let me tell you. (luckily she's been on liquids, so it was easy to clean up!) I tried all flavours and types of Tylenol for kids. The liquid, the 'melt-aways' (which, let me tell you, don't melt away quickly as you'd hope) I tried forcing her to swallow a capsule, but that didn't work either. My next step was to mash up 1/2 a regular pill and put it in applesauce. But her fever dropped from 103 to 101...and i didn't think I needed to medicate that low a fever.
But the nosebleeds started again. Not as bad as last time (4 a day), but at least 2 a day...and always one between 2 and 5 in the morning. Last night was major. She held her head over the toilet, as blood flowed from both nostrils like a slow running tap. After a few clots ca
me out, and she spat up a big clot...it seemed to slow and we were able to clip her nose and lay her between us in our bed. (The doc gave us this great nose clip for children's nosebleeds ...see photo!)We've had to have her with us every night, because we need to assist her immidiately if she starts to bleed.
It's so strange...I've googled it like mad, and can't find any connection between fever and nosebleeds. (Oh except for a diagnosis of Leprosy!) The doctor has no clue either, except to suggest she has a bleeding disorder. But i think that's off-base...because why would she ONLY bleed during fevers and not any other time? (well...besides a slight nosebleed once every 6 weeks or so)
She's now just adjusted to the fact that she gets them, and I bought a few pink facecloths from Dollarama that are her "nosebleed" cloths. She goes to bed everynight with one beside her, in case she gets a bleed...then she covers her nose and comes to our room. (this is to avoid the trail of blood drops on the carpet leading from her room to ours that I was scrubbing at 4am everynight during the last fever episode)
So, please pray for Aila. She seems better today...finally eating some toast...and not as lethargic as the last few days. But we need the vomiting and nosebleeds to stop. OR, we need some answers as to WHY she gets nosebleeds with fevers!!!

Jon used to get nosebleeds all the time, and I think they were allergy related, but he didn't suffer from fever or vomiting, just bleeding. Poor Aila. Tell her gramma love her too.
You should probably have some blood work done on her just to rule out anything serious.
I feel so sorry for her . . . . and for you (all that washing and worry) but I'm glad that she is doing so much better now. Whew!

I stumbled across your page while googling to find a link between vomiting and nosebleeds (the delightful fun I'm having with my toddler at the moment.)
I had nosebleeds ALL THE TIME until I was 14, and often they would start in the middle of the night as you mentioned with your daughter, a lot of blood, and the clots you mentioned as well. You might want to take her to an Ear Nose Throat specialist, because if it's one particular blood vessel that keeps causing the bleeds, they can chemically cauterize it. That's what I had done, and I haven't had a since nose bleed since.

Hi - I was googling to find about the link between nosebleeds and fever (esp. flu/viral) and landed on your page. My 3 year old had verybad nosebleeds everytime she came down with fluw/viral fever. The reason is due to inflammation of the respiratoy system because I've noticed sometimes she starts bleeding prior to her temp going up. She had episodes of really bad bleeds wetting 2-3 big towels. Once her bleeding started I start spraying organic sesame oil which reduces inflammation naturally and it stops after the second day. I've seen her get this irrespective of the weather/ season - spring/summer/fall & winter. But I'm yet to figure out how to stop it in the first place, since her bleeding starts prior to a fever setting in.
For sesame oil spray - use any nasal spray bottles and empty out the contents and fill it up with organic sesame oil and spray it in her nose - Hope this works for your little girl! God Bless!
