Catholic Surprise
It appears the the Catholic School that the girls attend does NOT participate in celebrating Halloween!
This was a surprise! I never thought Catholics would have an objection! I am pleasantly surprised!
Now instead of being "the only kid" who doesn't go Trick Or Treating....my kid is the norm!

That's awesome! What a blessing!
BUT I heard that they are still participating by dressing up. Are they dressing up?
Sometimes I feel like we're the only ones who don't celebrate. It's nice to know we're not alone in it.

When we go bowling tonight, Anneka will dress up as Dora, and Aila will be Tigger. That's not participating, it's an excuse for them to dress up.
There are no costumes at school....
BTW...what are you trying to say?
Costumes are not permitted at our school either. They don't even call it halloween, they refer to it and 'orange and black day' HAHAHA
JR is SO excited to go bowling with the girls tonight!!!
When I was talking to Mom she said that the girls were dressing up. I thought she meant the girls were dressing up for the school day and then in your post you said that the school does not participate in Halloween. I didn't realize that they were just dressing up to go bowling in the evening. I was a bit confused by what I heard and then by what I read. That's all I meant. I hope you had fun. I hope to go bowling with the boys for Evan's birthday in a few weeks.
THIS WHOLE halloween STINKS.
I HAVE NEVER SEEN SO MANY KIDS ROAMING THE STREETS LAST NIGHT.
TEENAGERS WITH PILLOW CASES, HOW CRAZY IS THAT! NEVER MIND WHAT THIS CELLEBRATION STANDS FOR. THIS BEGGING STUFF BUGS ME ALLREADY.
SO GOOD FOR YOU ALL YOU PARENTS OUT THERE WHO MAKE IT A FAMILY DAY INSTEAD. YOU MAKE YOUR KIDS FEEL IMPORTANT AND NOT THE NEIGHBOURS WITH THEIR STUFF. BESIDES YOUR NEIGHBOURS ARE NOT PAYING FOR THE DENTIST BILLS, HAHAHA!
IT IS ABOUT TIME WE CELLEBRATE -JESUS -.
MOM, OMA, TRUDY, OR WHATEVER I AM TO YOU

Yes...I would allow the girls to dress up for school. (only in non-Halloween related costumes) They cannot participate in any crafts of witches or Pagan symbols however. Anything Seasonal, yes. Ritualistic, no.
In past years, I permitted costumes at school, because the ritual of Halloween Costumes is historically about the scaring away spirits during 'trick or treating'. It is this event that I won't participate in.
Luckily, now I don't have to worry about the costumes at school! However, I do buy one, because there is no other time of the year that you can purchase dress-up outfits for our "tickle trunk" here at home!
I used to be very anti-Halloween but it has Christian roots despite the fact that we have let it be coopted by the world (much like we are doing with Christmas).
But for those who don't, you might want to celebrate Reformation day instead. All Hallows Eve was when Martin Luther nailed up the famous 95 thesis. He chose this time because Nov 1st was a day everyone went to church. All Hallows Eve was a rememberance of the dead and All Saints Day a rememberance of those whose lives inspire our faith.
However - Reformation Day won't fly at a Catholic school :-)
