A is for Anneka

Anneka had to do her first research project this year in grade 2! They had to pick an animal to research, and she chose the Flamingo! click on the image to read close-up

She also had to present her findings in front of the entire class. I coached her on speaking in front of a crowd, but she ended up exceeding my suggestions! For example, one of her lines was "Flamingo means Flame in Latin" She was then going to follow up that fact by saying "Latin is a language." However, instead, she turned to the classroom and asked "Does anyone know what Latin IS?" One little boy raised his hand "A language???" he croaked. "That's correct!" she said.

At the end, in a totally impromptu moment, she asked the room "Does anyone have any questions about the American Flamingo?" A little kid raised his hand and said "Uh...WHY is it's brain smaller than it's eye?"

Anneka pointed to the boy, and with great gusto and a smile said "Well...you see....THAT....I do NOT know." Apparently the way she said it made the entire class crack up, and her teacher too.

I'm proud of my kid. (Can you tell?) And she got 92% on the project (an A) with the comments:
"Great presentation, Anneka! You are very confident in front of the class. You spoke very clearly and knew alot of facts about Falmingos. Way to go! Love, Miss Kenna"

Yvonne, you have one (well, two) amazing girls. Even reading the poster board ("after two weeks they leave their nest for 'god'" - very cute)I know I never did anything like that in grade 2. Totally incredible. Love it!
