Okay...I realize that Anneka is only 7, and that officially, she's not a "tween" yet until May...but we're certainly seeing snippits of tween-ish attitude here and there.
For example:
Yvonne: Hey Anneka...know what?
Anneka: What?
Yvonne: I was so proud of you...for buying your sister that toy...that I wrote about it on my blog!
Anneka: WHAT??
Yvonne: Uh...well...I was so impressed that I...
Anneka: MOMMY!!!! You should have ASKED me first!
Yvonne: Wha...?
Anneka: That's soooo embarrassing! You can't just go writing about me on your blog, for the whole world to see, without asking first!! *stomps foot*
Yvonne: Oh....I....
Anneka: *grumbles something*
Yvonne: Anneka
Anneka: YES?
Yvonne: Is it okay with you if I write about your generous heart on my blog?
Anneka: Well...I guesssss so. Okay.
Yvonne: Thanks Anneka...
Anneka: uh-huh...
This morning, Anneka was supposed to bring something to school from "un autre payes" (a different country) for a cultural display.
Anneka: I wish that Oma was here to help me!
Yvonne: Why?
Anneka: Well, I have to bring something from a different country, and since Oma and Opa are from that land...what's it called..??
Yvonne: Holland?
Anneka: Yeah...Holland....well, it would have been cool to bring something from Holland to school.
Yvonne: Well, Anneka...I have Dutch stuff you can bring! After all, because my parents are Dutch....I'm dutch. And that means that you are HALF Dutch!
Anneka: Really?? COOL! So...what can I bring?
*I went to my closet, and brought out a dutch hat from a "dutch-girl" costume, and put it on....the point sticking high in the air. Anneka just stared at me with a raised eyebrow*
Yvonne: See?? This...is a DUTCH HAT!
Anneka: *Rolls her eyes* "Yeah....pft....Like I'm supposed to believe THAT!"
Anneka on the phone to Gramma:
"Hey Gramma...did you hear that Renee moved away from our home? Yeah...it's sad...now her room is sooo empty. Well...except for the TV that Daddy had to *air quotes* BUY *air quotes* from her."
We killed ourselves laughing...not only for her emphatic use of "air quotes" but because we have NO idea what part of that story seems 'off' to her! Does she not believe that we bought the tv? Does she not understand why we needed to pay for it? At anyrate...it was some new "attitude" that was most interesting to observe!

Oh my goodness!! I am amazed that it hits so early. Oh what I have to look forward to! It sounds so funny when you write about it though.
Did you ever convince her the hat was legit?
I told you not to throw things away so quickly!
May be she would have liked to bring me to school and talk Dutch or you could've bought some tulips?
Hahaha.
Anyway, a very cute blog Yvonne, I lllloove it.
Oma
