Now I'm Cool?

Our neighbors have a little 6 year old boy named Huzaifah (Who-Zay-fah). He and Anneka are best friends, and spend hours together. It's really cute.

Huzaifah's parents are incredibly cool people who are our age, and we have tonnes in common. Humara (his Mom) grew up in Ottawa, and she and I have clicked in a great way. A couple weeks ago, I took Huzaifah everyday after school while his Mom worked overtime. The kids had a great time, and I loved having him with us. He stayed for supper twice, because he's addicted to MY mac and Cheese. "What do you put in it?" Humara asked. "Huzaifah raves about your Mac and Cheese!"

Anyway, one time as Humara was leaving after dropping him off, I looked at Huzaifah and said "Huzaifah...I REALLY LIKE your Mom!"
He looked at me and shyly said "I really like Anneka's Mom..."
"Hey wait...." I kidded "That's ME!"

Later, I told Anneka what he had said and she said "Yeah...I know. He tells me that all the time. He thinks you're sooo cool." She shrugged.
She told me that she had told him: "I guess my Mom is good with kids because she taught piano for so many years." Huzaifah looked at her with his eyes all wide, and said "Your Mom teaches piano?? She's SO cool! Hey Anneka.....so.... Do YOU know how to play piano?"

Of course, the answer to this is "NO". Anneka has never shown any kind of interest in music at all. I've asked her if she wanted to learn how to play the piano, or guitar....and she was violently opposed to it. After the talk with Huzaifah, she came up to me with her hands on her hips "Mommy! Why have you never taught ME the piano?"
"Uh...because you never wanted to learn!??"
"Oh." she said "I want to learn now..."

So now, once a week, I give a lesson to Anneka, Aila and Huzaifah. Anneka is catching on SO fast...it's incredible.

And now....because the little boy next door seems to think I'm 'cool', my daughter is open to the possibility that it could be true!

This sounds like she is just the right age to be learning. God's timing too.

OK that is SO not fair. I have been working for years at being recognized as being cool, to no avail.

Amazing what influence those darn peers have. grr.
the power can be used to good instead of evil though. that's how Martha got evan to eat- seeing Lucy eat, and when his food was offered to lucy? suddenly he acquired a ravenous appetite. :P man they are funny.
