Pink

The other day, Anneka's school had their "Pink Shirt" Day.

I was a bit confused. Pink? On Feb 25? Why?

Anneka: "I have to wear pink today Mommy...everyone does."
Me: "Even the boys?"
Anneka: "Yup! They're supposed to borrow something pink from their sisters or Moms"
Me: "Whatever FOR?"

Here's the story:

Now schools all over the world are participating every year, by wearing pink, and saying 'No' to bullying.

I think it's a great idea, and I'm so proud of these Canadian boys!

I'm thinking twice about this one...we have tried too hard already to take the macho out of the man. Maybe choose a different color - why feminize it?

Pink doesn't make a man less of a man....does it? Many strong business men wear a pink shirt with their suit, or a pink tie. I think dark hair and a pink shirt is actually quite nice on a man.

Besides...a color doesn't make them any less of a man. And who says 'macho' is even necessary? What does macho actually mean? What defines macho...and why does it have anything to do with being a man? If I had sons, its not something I'd want them to grow up to be. I want them to be gentlemen (like my husband!)

But if you watched the story....pink was important because of what happened to the bullied kid. It just so happened to be pink....and what a statement for boys to make!! "No matter what color you wear, kids should be safe from harassment in school."
