Spring time in Ottawa

Right now Ottawa is having their yearly "Tulip Festival"

After helping to protect the Dutch Queen during the war, (who was pregnant at the time) Holland sent Ottawa 100,000 tulip bulbs in 1945 as a thank-you gift. The year after that, they sent another 20,500 and now the tradition continues, as Holland sends 10,000 bulbs EVERY YEAR.

Since tulips come up every year...you may wonder what Ottawa does with all these bulbs? (I did the math, and 2008 makes 730,500 tulips so far) Well.....they throw them out! Yup...every year Ottawa discards the previous year's bulbs...and plants new ones. What a waste!! They should give them away for free....first come-first served!

Parliament Hill with thousands of red tulips!
See the one single yellow tulip? So cute!
Ron, Lynne and I climbed to this look out for this fantastic view!
