The Blackout

This weekend, our neighborhood experienced a blackout. Apparently, this happens from time to time around here. It was a totally new experience for us, since I only remember it ever happening once in Winnipeg in the last 15 years, and that was for 10 minutes in a rain storm.

Anyway, the lights were out for 90 minutes, and hydro had no idea when they'd be able to fix it. So we gathered the kids (after some screeching by Aila after she was stuck in the pitch black basement for a minute or two) and had some family time. We lit some candles, and started a fire in the fireplace in the family-room downstairs. We played some hangman and pictionary on the chalk board (using a flashlight) and then Aila decided she wanted to tell a "ghost story".

I got out my phone, and tried to make an audio recording (I knew it would be cute) and I got the first part of it. She really tried to be "descriptive" and she swung her arms too and fro, to tell what was sure to be a haunting tale. (It starts with "Once upon a time", but that was slightly cut off)

"Once Upon a Time, there was a BIIIG Huge ghost in the livingroom. It scared everyone - in a closet, outside, in the deep....dark....woods"

Hmm...so just where was this ghost then? haha.

It ends soon after that with a burst of giggles, when the words "poopy" "toilet" and "diarrhea" made their way into the story, and she was given a stern "no potty language" talk from Mommy.
